These kettles are usually mini corded jug kettles. The capacity is obviously reduced - one or two cups of water at the most.

KETTLE FEATURES

Fast Boil
The water boils faster by pushing more energy through the element. Fast boil elements can be concealed or flat. These kettles can produce a lot of noise, as the element is so powerful. These kettles also feature a sudden shut off mechanism that is integral to this technology.

Elements
The element is what powers the kettle. One of the main problems in the past is the scale that builds up on the elements affecting the kettles performance. There have been several new developments to eradicate this problem:

Concealed Elements:- The element is concealed under the floor of the kettle, which can be wiped clean easily. This also allows you to boil smaller amounts of water, as you do not need to cover the element.
Flat Elements:- These are also under the floor of the kettle but they heat the water up quicker than a concealed element because it is still in direct contact with the water. Again they are energy efficient as you do not need to use so much water.

Filters
Limescale is the build up of calcium carbonate in water and is usually prevalent in hard water areas. Filter kettles are almost standard now and feature a removable plastic/fine mesh filter that should be rinsed frequently under the tap to avoid scale build up.

Power
The average kettle works on power of around 2.2KW. Fast boil kettles work on power around 3.0KW.

Water Gauges
Most kettles feature a gauge to see how much water is going in. Some kettles feature dual gauges one on each side of the kettle.

360-Degree Kettle Bases
The bases on many cordless kettles now have 360-degree connection so you do not have to place it on a central connector on the base to make it work.

Auto Shut-off / Boil Dry Protection
This automatically shuts off the kettle once the water has boiled, avoiding the kettle boiling dry and ruining the element.
