Talex

Talex is the original and largest reseller of radar detectors and GPS satellite navigated detectors in the UK. In Talex's previous guise as incargadgets.co.uk Talex found that by far and away the vast majority of enquiries and purchases were for satellite navigation products. Of these there was a pattern emerged for the most popular products and with that in mind, Talex have launched a new satnav site featuring the most in demand, portable, incar satellite navigation systems available in the UK today.

Talex only stock what they believe to be the most popular and best in range of GPS Satellite Navigation units for the car (and in some cases for walking!) in the UK. Products from Blackspot Road Angel Navigator 6000 (a combined speed camera safety alert system with satellite navigation system), Garmin Nuvi, TomTom, Navman iCN, Garmin Street Pilot C, Magellan RoadMate 800 and Snooper Indago (also, a combination speed camera safety alert system with satellite navigation).

What is Satellite Navigation?

Satellite navigation systems use radio time signals transmitted by satellites to enable mobile receivers on the ground to determine their exact location. The relatively clear line of sight between the satellites and receivers on the ground, combined with ever-improving electronics, allows satellite navigation systems to measure location to accuracies on the order of a few metres in real time.

Also known as GPS, a group of 24 satellites circle the earth collectively providing information to receivers on the earth enabling devices to calculate latitude and longitude. This information provides speed, direction and heading data.

Once only available to the military, then only for those who could afford prestige vehicles, satellite navigation units are easily affordable now for the mainstream and come in many different guises.

Advances in technology means units are becoming smaller and portable with some having the added benefit of containing safety camera alerts alongside the mapping.

Some very good reasons why you need a speed trap detector

Speed cameras are now referred to as 'Safety cameras' by the government and police forces; they should only be located at accident blackspots and are painted yellow so that motorists are aware of their presence. The Government want motorists to know where 'safety' cameras are so speed and accident figures are reduced. This is what speed trap detectors do; they provide advance warnings that motorists are entering an accident blackspot zone.

Government research has revealed that the number of accidents around scrutinised camera sites fell by 47%.

MORI research, arranged by Origin Technologies in 2001, showed that speed camera detector users had an average 24% fewer accidents than non-users.

The MORI research further showed that:

  • 76% of detector users feel they have been more conscious about keeping to the speed limit since purchasing a detector
  • 78% of detector users feel they have become more aware of the speed limit in the areas in which they are driving
  • 81% of detector users feel they have become more speed aware generally

The number of speed cameras on UK roads is increasing dramatically; there are 4,000 cameras today and it is estimated that there will be 13,000 in the next couple of years.

The number of speeding tickets is set to increase from one million to three million annually - that's one speeding ticket issued every ten seconds

The speeding endorsement system is set to become stricter in 2003; motorists caught twice on the motorway at, for example, 72 and 76 will be disqualified; speeds of 86+ will mean an instant disqualification

You won't be caught out by hidden cameras; no more panic, last minute, braking

Imagine the inconvenience to you and your family if you lost your driving licence. Plus the increased insurance premiums

The chance of receiving speeding tickets - and driving bans - is becoming an increasingly real possibililty for most drivers. Speed camera detectors provide protection to safeguard against this. As detectors provide warnings of accident blackspots, they may be protecting you life as well

Now is the time to become a safer and more speed aware driver. Better speed management protects your life and the lives of others, protects your livelihood and your driving licence from penalty points.
