In May 1999, a pilot site "sports-interactive.net" was launched and established the basis for the development of today’s Sweatband online shop Sweatband was incorporated in September 1999 and began trading in April 2000 - initially covering just four sports; tennis, cricket, squash, soccer and rugby - with the aim of utilising the Internet to provide active sports players with a broad range of products across multiple sports at discounted prices. In Feb 2000 Sweatband received major funding from Internet Business Group PLC, an AIM listed web development and web hosting company with an existing equity interest in the Company, to develop the business and launch a greater number of sports departments. In October 2001 the two companies formerly merged.
