British Gas, the AES Code of Practice for Face to Face Sales and Energysure

British Gas are proud to be one of the first domestic energy supply companies to subscribe to Energysure. Energysure is an initiative that has been developed to set clear standards of good selling practices for those responsible companies subscribing to it. Energysure's objective is to promote best practice and drive the standards for energy selling. It does this by setting a clear framework of strict standards for the rigorous recruitment and training of energy sales representatives. The scheme, for the first time grants official, nationally accepted recognition and accreditation to energy sales agents - in both gas and electricity.

Energysure will be overseeing the implementation and adherence to the AES Code of Practice for Face to Face Sales. This sales code is a voluntary agreement between energy suppliers about how to conduct their face-to-face sales activities. Its aim is to provide consumers with protection from disreputable sales practices, and has been developed by energy suppliers in conjunction with energywatch, Ofgem and the government. The Code covers recruitment, training, sales and marketing material as well as conduct with consumers and has been created to ensure consumers are not misled or pushed into signing a contract with an energy supplier.

British Gas is committed to raising the standards of energy selling and is committed to Energysure. All British Gas’ sales representatives are approved to the Energysure standard and have earned the right to display their Energysure badge.

This report includes information on the proportion of customers British Gas contacted to confirm that they were happy to proceed after they signed a contract with British Gas, and the percentage of customers who chose to cancel their contract after British Gas contacted them.
